Math Centre

The UBC Continuing Studies Math Centre offers non-credit courses intended primarily for UBC students who need to refresh their basic math skills. Non-UBC students who are in Grade 12 or who are over 18 years of age are also welcome.

Math 001 and Math 002 are pre-calculus courses designed to meet the challenge of first-year mathematics.

All first-year calculus courses at UBC require successful completion of grade 12 pre-calculus math (BC Principles of Math or equivalent). If you have not taken such a course in high school, Math 002 is a non-credit course offered by UBC Continuing Studies, and is accepted as a prerequisite for Math 180 and Math 184 (if you score 80% or higher) or Math 110 (if you score 50-79%).

Math 001 - There are no prerequisites, but a minimum of High School Math 11 is recommended.

Math 002 - A minimum of a "B" in High School Math 11 or a score of 90% on UBC Continuing Studies Math 002 Self-Placement Test is recommended before you can register for Math 002.

Math 003 and Math 004 are calculus courses for those who have passed Principles of Math 12 or Math 002 with a C+ or B.
